Transformation of a Mother — Step by Step

My name is Stephnie, but my friends call me Step.
I’m a mother of nine beautiful & amazing children, married to the same baby daddy — because yes, that’s usually the next question 😉

I am also a woman who has walked through unimaginable loss and discovered that grief, while devastating, does not have to be the final chapter.

When my second son, Stephan, went to heaven, my world changed forever. Grief touched every part of my life — my faith, my identity, my relationships, and my understanding of who I was becoming. I learned quickly that surviving wasn’t enough. I needed meaning, truth, and an authentic way forward that honored both my pain and my love.

Through this journey, my faith deepened rather than disappeared.
I believe God is always good. He is not an accomplice in evil, nor is He the author of the tragedies that try to steal our faith. He is the healer of the brokenhearted, not the one who breaks them.

Here, we don’t rush grief or ask mothers to “move on.”
We walk step by step toward transformation — grounded in faith, truth, and compassion. I believe restoration is possible without leaving our children behind. Love does not end. It evolves, matures, and carries us forward.

Read My StorySupport the Mission

I stood beside her on the day everything changed. I witnessed the shock, the heartbreak, the moment a mother's world turned upside down. What I never could have predicted was the strength she would grow into. I have watched her rise with courage, carry her son with honor, and build a life that speaks his name boldly and lovingly. She didn't become smaller. She became brighter. Her pain found purpose, and that purpose is helping other mothers feel less alone. You'll recognize her.
She wears pink every day. And if you ask about it or compliment it, she will gladly tell you the story of the day her son fell in love with the color. What might seem simple to someone else is sacred to her. You might see a butterfly or a flower in her hair, and she will tell you it represents life and remembrance. The bracelets stay on her wrist, and she never misses a moment to share who he is. She lives out loud.
As a mother who has never walked this path, I am deeply moved by her. Watching her continue forward while keeping her child present in everything she does inspires me to love harder, live braver, and move with more intention. Her growth is real. Her light is undeniable. Her son would be so proud. I am incredibly proud of her.

As a father who has experienced the loss of a son, I recognize authentic grief when I see it. Step is not simply surviving - she is leading. The way she honors her son while helping others find hope is powerful and deeply meaningful.
Through watching her on Facebook and speaking with her through Messenger, I have witnessed her authenticity, her compassion, and her strength. She carries her grief with honesty and purpose, turning pain into positive action that creates space for other grieving parents to feel seen and supported.
Her voice brings faith, comfort, and encouragement to families walking this difficult path. What she is building truly matters, and the impact is real. Her son would be proud.
